Learning about Addiction and Recovery

Third Tuesday of every month, 7:00pm

Room 318, Bldg. C

Everyone who is interested in learning more about the disease of addiction and its impact on individuals and families is encouraged to attend these educational programs. To enhance the learning experience, presentations include informative handouts and Q&A followed by discussion. The following are just a few of the topics scheduled for 2010:

  •      July 20, 2010  Re-Entry Solutions.  Guest speaker Jay Cory, Executive Vice President of the Atlanta Union Mission, provides insight into transition resources for employment and housing for those (male and female) coming out of recovery and/or the criminal justice system.  (Psalms 40:2, "He also brought me out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock and established my steps.")
  •     August 17, 2010  Spice, K2, Skunk - "Legal, Scary, Dadly."  A representative from Georgia Poison Control will talk about this synthetic version of marijuana that is sending users to the ER with alarming spikes in blood pressure and heart rate.  It is a chemical compoound with a consistency similar to marijuana, which is sprayed onto or mixed into spices and can be rolled or smoked, similar to a marijuana cigarette.
  •    September 21, 2010  "The Joy of Recovery"   Speaker:  Wayne M. a recovering addict, presents a glimmer of inspiration for the hopeless, linking mind, body and soul.
